Many applications require that information be routed to and from various people and processes. For example, a scientific publication must route through authors, reviewers, publishers, and others. Data must flow between various organizations. Workflow diagrams can be used to build and design these processes. The nodes in these diagrams can also be enhanced using ontologies.
